Friday we spent indoors lounging on the couch and screaming "angin! angin!". then we had the best freaking mushroom soup in the world at Mario's, a spot that panders to the tourists, sure, but don't you dare give a damn because the mushroom soup is, as my boyfriend would say, "lemak berkrim!". they serve that heavenly goodness in a giant bread bowl so all that creamy mushroomy-ness is soaked through the bread and you want to die of happiness but you just can't because you're too afraid Heaven doesn't have this exact mushroom soup. they also make the best fettucine carbonara there (but if you're Muslim, ask for chicken). i don't understand what they put in the sauce. it was perfect. the sauce wasn't overly creamy and it didn't have that bland i'm-sick-of-this-carbonara-why-did-i-order-it-in-the-first-place taste that most carbonaras have. they use some sort of magic stock with just a hint of blackpepper. oh Mario, i don't know if you're real but if you marry me i promise to have linguine shaped kids just for you.
Saturday we spent most of the day in the apartment and then we went to eat at Nasi Kandar Line Clear. woohoo. it was a long line but that was some damn good fried chicken! then we roamed around Plaza Gurney for a few hours where i begged peebee if i could get an assortment of toys from toys'r'us but once again, he said no. i mean, who wouldn't want a bow and arrow (with the sucker things at the end), a knight's armour and a bingo cage? you say waste of money, i say investment for the future. it hurt most when i was denied a magical tupperware thing i found at toys'r'us. it was two screwable containers erm, screwed together. on the top you could put your cold milk (they had that gel ice pack thing around the container so you can keep it cold) and on the bottom you could keep your cookies. i felt that it was a basic necessity in our cookie preoccupied world but peebee failed to see reason. i left that haven of childhood memories without my cookie and milk container. i sulked and slumped off to Gurney Drive where we tapau-ed char kuey teow, satay, muar chee and rojak. or was it pasembur? i have no idea. someone has to tell me the difference. i think i had pasembur. i chose all these fried items and the guy cut it up into square cubes while chanting 'rojak! rojak! rojak!' to the beat of the song. i was enamoured. he definitely makes it onto my list of top ten rojak guys.
Sunday we were compelled to go back to Mario's for a second round of mushroom soup and fettucine carbonara. then roadtrip back to kl. i miss that place already. *sigh* a sanctuary where i could order creamy soup and creamy pasta without being scrutinized by the judging eyes of my parents. i heart you, weekend in penang.
